Jan 2025 - The Tina Turner Musical

What to do on a weekday night after work? Go to a theatre.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical has been playing at the Aldwych theatre in London’s West End since 2018. Because Tina Turner is such a legend, I wanted to see it.

At times I found it slighly sad to watch because Tina’s life was not made up of easy rides but the triumphs she achieved from mid life years onwards were fantastic.

Tina and the whole cast were super energetic and their vibes were infectious. The Tina on my night was Charlotte Le Croix who is the standby Tina performer. I cannot say I missed the main crew. Charlotte was so good in everything she did, I was more than happy with ‘my’ Tina!

What I also liked was the stage and changes of the stage. I loved that all was very minimal but effective. For example, to switch to the hospital scene, it was enough to place one hospital bed on the stage with four white (doctors) clad figures in the shadows. Genius!

The theatre ticket for this musical asks you not to sing! And you think Awwwww…. but it all makes sense when at the end, you are invited to sing along and all of a sudden the whole theatre booms with us singing every single word!! If this was happening all along there would be no show at all, just the theatre goers singing.

Anyway, just go! The show runs in two parts, 1 hour 20 min then 20 min interval then another 1 hour 20 min so be ready for slightly sore legs from slightly cramped conditions. Aldwych Theater is no worse than other London theatres, you mostly have to suffer a little unless you buy the most expensive seats.

In fact, before buying any theatre seats, check SeatPlan website where you will find real photos taken from many seats in many theatres along with the leg room space and other comments.
